Thatched cottages and farm buildings were the norm in rural Britain for a millennium or more. Why the attraction to thatch? First of all, the building practices of bygone Britain ran to lightweight, irregular materials, such as wattle and daub walls, and cruck beams. These walls were simply not made to take much weight, and thatch was by far the lightest weight material available.

This is what I like a lot. Only the strange sky colour ... or is it my imagination ?
In any case only 9/10 because of the colour of the sky. LOL

Now I can just see myself living there in my retirement. I think the "lady of leisure" thing would match this place perfectly! Great image.

Never give up. Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. ~~ Michael Jordan

The sky is my only worry. The rest is good. If you can retouch the sky, you can make this an every ones favourite. Nice work.

Excellent capture of this beautiful home. You have great quality, color, clarity and compostion (the sky is exempt from the color :(............I agree with Priyantha that if you can retouch the sky, this will be a smashing good image.....thanks for the great explanation also!

That’s a beautiful photo. The sky isn’t perfect, but it’s not to bad. Love those cats painted on the wall.

There are three colours, Ten digits and seven notes, its what we do with them that’s important. Ruth Ross

Very nice. Reminds me of when I was an exchange student in Germany. They had houses like that, too.

I love the composition you picked for this particular photo. The clean and tidy path welcomes me to a neat and tidy little house, which due to its unique construction materials seems so cosy and idyllic.

I could live here with no problem. I can hear the birds tweet and the quietness. i love the windows with the lace curtains. Lots to look at here. The lawn is immaculate. What happen to the sky? It is not right. Replce it and you have a winner.

I've always dreamed of living in a thatched cottage. And this is what it would look like.

Duh! What's with all the complaints about sky color? Hasn't any one ever seen a green sky? serious!

Great picture and I think the sky color is very complementary.
