Portreath is a small resort with a very narrow harbour located about 5 miles north of Redruth. It was once a busy port, importing coal and exporting copper but now only sheltering the occasional fishing boat.
I like the way you have focused you shot....down low to get the foreground rocks into most of the frame....the sky looks very threatening..wonderful work
Hopefully I may in that part of the country next June...so may look at places like this!
It’s a great composition to be sure but if I can be the one voice of dissent - the different mix of focus styles is doing it no favours especially viewed at full size. the landscape it self has been over sharpened which has obliterated a lot of detail and left some harsh USM lines around the rocks whereas the sky is overly soft and out of balance with the ground and is also suffering from some nasty JPEG artefact blocking. If you have the original shot still without these effects applied you could maybe try using a subtler smart sharpen on it.
While I must agree about the contrast of the rocks I believe that the sky looks perfect as is. (I am unsure what the artifact blocking is but I am sure phil knows what he is talking about).
Despite all that I must say, this is a powerful shot, keep up the good work! Cheers!
EDIT: Spelling
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. - 1 Corinthians 13:11
i like the photo and slight oversharpeing aside as said by Phil but is it my imagination or is the light coming from two different directions ie in the top half it seems to be coming from the right and in the bottom half the shadows clearly indicate a left hand light source
how bizare
certainly creates a unique unballancing for the eye, I still like it none the less
Another wonderful painterly image, Mick and the light is just extraordinary. Would you mind if I had a bash at painting a watercolour of this scene? I'd love to try and capture all those sky colours in paint. Breathtakingly beautiful!
Wow! You have so many images from Cornwall here (where I live), I visit this beach almost every day and you have really captured the feel of it, well done!
