The perfect day in the highlands of Scotland can be ended perfectly by watching the sunset at this quiet and remote location upstream of Braemar…. Here, beneath the pine trees the golden light of the sunset gives the scenery some mystical atmosphere…..Please enjoy

This is absolutely gorgeous, but I have to ask you. With the darkness in the foreground, and the sun setting behind the trees and the hill, how did you get that lighting so bright on the grassy area in the center? I'm scratching my head over this. Wonderful picture, Mick.

You really have done it again. The pink of that sky in the background is very beautiful. The composition's so strong in this and the lighting really adds. There's a bit of colour noise in the foreground showing up on my screen Mick, but it doesn't detract - this is a winner.

I don't think you could have composed this one better.

Read through the above comments, and I would echo all of the above and politely and respectfully disagree with Bob on the one area being too dark.

Balance seems to be the most operative of descriptors and apt as well. The diagonals of the flowing water and those of the light rays illuminating the background, not only serve to bisect and set up the balance of light and dark ... they also act as a natural guide for your viewer's eyes.

Really a beautiful setting and photo. You most certainly succeeded and brought out the best of this scene. Love the silhouetted trees ... another strong element, in and of themselves.

And but of course, thank you for sharing this one with us. Thoroughly enjoyed by this viewer. :o)

Have to do the +favs thing. One can't take in the full measure of a photo such as yours here ... without spending some time with it. And that is what I intend to do. :o)

p.s. Can't believe I forgot to make mention of the colour palette present. Now ... I have.

Y'know, I've always wondered why Finian left Ireland, the only probable reason would have been to get away with his leprechaun's stolen gold. Now if he knew this spot existed in Scotland he surely would have traveled here instead of some fictitious southern American state. However, this spot is so beautiful, the way you've captured it, I'm sure the leprechauns already know of it and would have been waiting for Finian to show up. Now, about JimBobEdsel's comment about the interior lighting, back in 2008, I've manipulated a number of photos over the years (it's 2015 now) and I'm not sure how a solid patch of light can be striking the grass in the center while the sun is setting below the horizon in the middle of the photo. For myself, if I'd seen a place like this is a couple different times of the day I think I would have taken several photos from a tripod, over the course of several hours, then combining two of them to get an image like this, the sunset in one part, a lighted glade in another part. And that's okay to do it. Your final image has such an old-world mysticism about it that manipulation is nothing to be denigrated by others. We use our skills and experience to achieve a work of art and, if that's how you got this image, then that's fine with me. If the c-index were still in place I'd be giving this one high marks indeed. Well done.

-Nik
