I took this underneath or shall I say between I-10 The Atchafalaya Basin Bridge . The Basin is approximately 1.4 million acres in south central Louisiana, making it American's largest swamp wilderness. The bridge is approximately 18 miles long with no shoulder and only 2 exits. Due to it's high accident rate the speed limit has been lowered to 55 MPH for 18 wheelers and they can only use the right lane.I personally believe that some of the accidents are caused from the beautiful view of The Atchafalaya that can only be seen from the bridge or by boat . It is breath taking as well as scary . Completely surrounded by water as far as you can see. Beautiful Cypress trees , Pelicans and many other birds as well as other wildlife. Fishing boats of all shapes and sizes . Beautiful sunsets and sunrises . The river was named The Atchafalaya by the Choctaw meaning Long River. It is no wonder that Baton Rouge's native son and famed photographer C.C. Lockwood has spent most of his life capturing this national treasurer deep in the heart of cajun country.
Cajun country is beautiful and I wish I had seen more of it for longer periods of time.
Great photo with excellent information.
