Paua is a species of abalone (Haliotis Iris) It is found only in the sea around New Zealand. A marine mollusk, Paua eat seaweed and cling to rocks at a depth of 1 to 10 metres, mainly along the shoreline. It is the most colourful of all the abalone shells and was traditionally used by Maori to illuminate the eyes of their carvings.Paua jewellery has become increasingly popular. Regarded as a delicacy by many I have tasted it only once and was not impressed :)

So that's what they look like. My daughters have some paua shell jewelry. It is so pretty and I like the irredescent look. I like your grouping of the shells. When I first saw the small image, I thought they were soap bubbles! They of course, have that same rainbow look as these beautiful shells. Very beautiful.

Beautiful irridescent colors on these Paua shells. They look fabulous against the black background. I happen to collect seashells of all things & don't have any abalone ... this will be going into my fav's & I will surely enjoy this on the desktop. A very nice presentation Eve .... Thank you.

The thumbnail really doesn't do this image justice, to see the full beauty & glory of these gorgeous shells you must see this full screen ! Amazingly beautiful, the intricate colors look almost painted on ! Great composition as well, Eve ....nicely done !
