The Basilica di Santa Crose (Basilica of the Holy Cross) is the principal Franciscan church of Florence. Legend says that Santa Croce was founded by St Francis himself. The current church was begun in 1294 when the architect, Arnolfo di Cambio, laid the first stone, but the neo-Gothic facade, by Nicolò Matas, only dates from 1857-1863. I did not manage any good shots of the whole building but hope this view of the tower and my other upload conveys some of the wonderful detail. This is one shot I did not tweak the sky :). . . Wonderful information, Eve, and a beautifully detailed shot. I am in awe that something this old has been so well maintained over the centuries. Perfect sky for this photo, too. Lovely work, Eve!

Those Kodaks really come through. I still love my 4 MP Kodak. This is fabulous, Lyn and the perspective really gives the shot a totally awesome appeal.

It is an amasing building indeed, and very old as i understand from your text.
You are right, better to post 2 images, than only one, with the total building cramped into it all. Now no big wide angle lens is needed, so no distortion of lines, thanks for the posting.

The detail here is just incredible. I wonder if anyone does this type of work anymore..certainly not in the US, as far as I know. There are spots of architectural interest all over this facade, and I wonder why it took so long for it to be decorated in this manner...and I thought it was hard to get someone to do work around here? lol.. Thanks for posting this, and I think the sky looks great, too !!! :)PJ

Dear Eve,
Thanks so much for this magnificent desktop !!!!!
Love the perspective and symmetry which in particular takes my fancy every time - specifically in old architecture like this.
Simply - thank you.
