It's wonderful that you were able to snap her before she got away. She does appear to be a young one and those large ears will serve her well. That zoom of yours can get up close. I see why she may be there with all that lovely terrain surrounding her.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Boy if this little beauty doesn't look like she's accustomed to being photographed. What a professional stance and pose she gave you and you took great advantage of it. Pretty as a picture ... as they say. Well done Eve.

This is a really good photo of this cute little fawn. Well done to capture her in the most perfect pose. I thought deer were an introduced species in NZ and were confined to farms or game parks, etc. Have they escaped and become a problem for farmers and gardeners the way the native deer are around here?

To answer JoAnn's question - there are plenty of wild deer in New Zealad and deer hunting is popular. Some species are Chamois, Thar, Red Deer, Sika Deer, Rusa Deer, Sambar, Whitetail Deer, Wapiti, Fallow Deer. They are not a problem in gardens etc though.
I am not sure what this fawn is.
Deer farming is also popular.:(
Yes, I am quite partial to venison :( but I could never shoot one
