Moeraki Beach, Otago, New Zealand. . . .The Maori word 'Moeraki' is usually translated as 'sleepy sky'. There are other places with the same name or versions of it, all along the path from the Polynesian homeland, Hawaiki. This was taken on New Year's Day 2007.. . . . . .Panasonic DMC-FZ7. . . . . Thank you for viewing and for any comments you may have.

What a gorgeous vista, Lyn, even with that overcast sky. Terrific colour and clarity in your image and I love the grasses in the foreground, which give such a great perspective to the scene. Is the water really that beautiful shade of aquamarine?

wow, love this! great perpective, and that water is amazing. i also like the inclusion of those two on the beach..it gives one a truer sense of the height you're at, and of the ridge in general
*edit* i SO live in the wrong part of the world :P

Thanks folks. To answer Papi11on's question - yes the sea really is that colour, I have not altered it in any way. It was actually quite a chilly day, probably why not many walking on the beach. I lasted about 5 minutes down there :)

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Lord! ... look at the blues and greens in that water behind a gentle surf ... what a picture. "Sleepy Sky" ... what a wonderful title in any language for this image. Would love to be lying on that sand under those clouds enjoying that exceptional ocean view. For shame ... making me so envious. :o)

Eve, dear friend, did you not feel like shooting them men walking down ?!
They spoilt the PERFECT foreground which I LOVE !!!
LOL
Seriously, the foreground is the best part for me here and I would give some [home-made] cookies to somebody for getting rid of them thoughtless males walking underneath the charming wisps of grass ...

That is a beautiful beach and as everyone has said the water color is wonderful. It must have been a bit chilly since I see the fellows walking are wearing jackets. It reminds me of Oregon beaches in the summer where it is often cool enough to wear a jacket. Inland where I live summers are warmer with temps in the 80's F. most days.

Lyn, you're supposed to be having summer down there..why was it chilly, or is that a relative term? lol...too gorgeous for me to add anything more than what has already been said, my friend. You do such wonderful work :)

Glorious (as my Mom likes to say!) Wow! This image is perfect. The clarity, colors, depth and the COMPOSITION! Wow again!! I have to have this as a desktop, but it can't be at work, I'd end up getting fired for daydreaming too much. You have captured Nature at one of her best moments! Thanks! Diane

What a picturesque vista you have captured to our enjoyment. Watching this photo (especially in full size) I have the feeling as if the beach streched far up till the horizon line. It seems so quiet but dramatical at the same time, most probably due to the waves and cluded sky.
