I have no idea why, but these furry creatures live at the summit of the Stanserhorn, Lucerne, Switzerland. They seemed to be enjoying their lunch :) Can anyone tell me what they are? . . . Kodak V550 . . Thanks for taking a look - any comments most welcome :)

Marmots is my guess, not sure if that's spelled correctly but it's close. LOL Great job Eve, hope you shared your lunch with them. :-)

Interesting critters and great clarity. I couldn't tell you what they are though.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Marmots, groundhogs, woodchucks, whatever you wanna call them.
These are alpine animals so maybe that's why you don't know them :o)
Lovely shot Lyn, very good ;o)

I think Chris is on the right track. We have woodchucks (which the farmers used to hate) around here. I can remember my brothers going out chuck hunting on my grandfather's farm. They would make large holes in the cow pastures and paths and wreck a lot of havoc for them. Cute pic though !!!!

Yes, I agree they are marmots. We have them in the mountains around here and they are famous for getting in your food when you are camping at higher elevations if you are not careful. Good shot.

Ah ! that was what you where asking me a little while back.
They are called (in German) Murmel tiere, what is in English and Dutch a Marmot.

They are not only living here at the Pilatus mountain, but i have seen them in the wild on each pass road i drove, but only above 2 kilometers hight.

They where here, before this mountain was first climed, and already here before the hotel and restaurant came ...

Please check out this posting i made earlier.
Shot this one on the Nufenenpass :
