In New Zealand today June 21st 2008,it is the shortest day of the year - or the winter solstice, when the southern hemisphere has tilted farthest away from the sun. Our coldest weather will start now, and a Polar blast is forecast for the coming week :( I had hoped to get a photo of the sunset today, lens polished, batteries charged, tripod ready (an event in itself!) but it was a non-event. This one is from three evenings ago. I resisted the temptation to tamper with it, this is straight off the camera. Panasonic DMC-FZ7. Comments welcome, thankyou for viewing :)

it does seem weird that you are getting your coldest weather now, while we are getting out hottest weather. Super sunset picture. Those clouds at the top look so dramatic. It's almost like they are on fire. Very nice, Lyn.

Lyn, the advantace of the shortest day of the year is that the coming days are growing longer!
You have provided us again with a wonderful capture. Thanks!

Yep, and it's now summer here. For the next couple of days sunlight will actually bath the flowers on the north side of the house. The temps got here before the sun

Love the fiery sky. Almost like pyrotechnics for the changing season.

It may be the shortest day but it definitely is the most beautiful day also. A very lovely sunset image.

Yes it's the summer solstic here Lyn. I have a sinking feeling when I think that because we've had so few good days for photography this summer and now we start losing a few minutes every day. Lovely sunset image here Lyn, it may be winter there but you've had more sunshine and blue skies than we have this summer.

Okay. So you're in the Heart of a Storm. Everything is perfectly calm, right? But you know that at any minute that calm is going to go away, and everything is going to be in chaos, and the world around you will literally blow you away. I want to be there.
