New Zealand is being battered by the worst storms in 10 years, resulting in havoc - power failures, roads blocked, loss of property and loss of lives. I went down to the sea today to try and capture its fury - not the best of conditions, very wet and very cold and poor visibility, so results were a bit disappointing. I did not hang about for too long as it was not very safe either :) I converted this one to b/w as there was not much colour in the image. . .Canon 450D . . thanks for viewing - comments most welcome.

i prefer the contrast in this one just a little bit. the bird has the right idea....stay up in the air. wonderful water motion. i sure wouldn't want to be out in a boat. fine work (as always).

It don't seem like a good time to be outside taking a photo. I can feel the spray from that wave all the way over here.
The sea, very well captured.

Beautiful presentation, Lynn...I would agree that this one is abit better with more contrast and the bird of added interest, though I do like the greater drama in the other one...both very nicely done.

Great shot , wonderful tones in b&w .
I don't like the frame , it distracts me to much from the shot .

In this one you can see the swell coming up quite well. Not a pleasant sight but a very good photo.

Wonderful sea fury! It's all part of the program, the change in the weather. It has been quite an odd year for the flukiest kinds of storms. This looks wonderful in b/w and I see that you have a new camera! Great choice too!

Again wonderful action image Lyn. The B&W suits this subject and adds to the drama.

I like them both. It would be hard to pick the best. The other shows more power and this has a somewhat more gentle touch with the addition of the birds. Both are great Lyn.

Interesting -- I thought from the thumbnails that I would like the other B&W best because of the composition, but when I looked at this one full screen, it's fantastic! There's so much more going on in terms of light and contrast. Excellent work.

Whew. Took me some time, however, I believe I have sourced the first of your Canon photos.

It was time well spent. Now then ...

Have to defer to Kristof's commentary with regards to the tones present. Composition is strong. And I do agree that the framing/border treatment overwhelms your image here.

Personal tastes aside ... for the simplicity of the content ... your framing/border treatment ... apart from size ... has too much 'stuff' going on. Mattes, drop shadow ... in this case, I do think that less would be more.

That said ... congratulations on your new acquisition. :o)

Look forward to seeing more from your mind's eye and your new camera.

p.s. Going to make a bold statement here ... leave your fiddlin' be for a bit. Your creativity and camera in hand will serve you well.

p.s.s. Nice shot. :o)
