A Friend in Need is A Friend Indeed I believe is a rough translation of Amicus certus in re incerta. I waited for almost 10 minutes today for this gull to fly away but it did not budge. I thought I may clone it out but decided to leave it. As you can see it was a beautiful clear blue sky today. I intensified the blue slightly and cropped the edges. This marble sculpture is the rooftop facade of a local building "originally designed by Forrester and Lemon for Hood and Shennan's Drapery in 1874. In 1886 it was remodelled for the AMP Society. The marble Amicus statue at roofline is thought to be the only original AMP insignia remaining in situ in New Zealand." You can see the whole impressive building HERE . . . Taken with Canon 450D using EF75-300mm lens.Hand held. . .Thanks for looking, any comments or suggestions (except you must use a tripod lol) most welcome and valued.

Super shot Lyn. Now toss a pebble up there and get that bird off of her before it does something SO embarrassing!! :o)

This is a very good close-up especially for a hand-held take Lyn. I like the presentation too. The sea gull distracts a bit - I would have cloned it out - but it has also turned out very sharp and clear in the photo.

Nice shot Lyn. I am impressed with the clarity for such a long hand held shot. The marble and the blue really make for great companions. Excellent post. The gull seems to be king.

If you would have cloned away that gull, you would have made as big mistake. I love him up there.

There are some tricks in order to let fly away this gull, Lyn.
I don't tell them however (lol) as this gull now creates an extra dynamic dimension to this very fine image. Wise decision to not clone it out!
Regards, Cornelius.

I was wondering why you hadn't considered this one for the contest yesterday. I'm glad you did, because it is a perfect image and a perfect example of negative space. It must have been difficult to do this hand held, especially while pointing the lens up as high as you had to to get the shot.
