Nugget Point Lighthouse on the south-east corner of the South Island of New Zealand was built in 1869. Originally powered by oil,in 1949 it was converted to diesel-generated electric power, and then later connected to mains electricity. The original light lasted until 2006 when it was replaced with with a LED beacon mounted externally. It is 76 metres above sea level and the stone tower is 9 metres high. It was de-manned in 1989 when it was automated and is now monitored remotely from Maritime New Zealand in Wellington. It is a long but quite easy walk to the top and the views along the way are breathtaking. . . Panasonic DMC FZ28. Thank you for viewing. Comments always welcome and appreciated.

what a nice photograph to wake up to. i love lighthouses and this one is a perfect example of why. it's like a lone sentinel guarding the coast. i like the simplicity of the shot along with the detail you've provided.

Whoa, this is really a very lovely image with a marvelous lighthouse out on the point. That looks like a great place to view from that deck out there over the cliff.

Think your position was even higher than the top you're talking about in your narrative, Lyn.
Wonderful vista, even finer than a forest full of lush green, lol.
Regards, Cornelius.

Lighthouses have always fascinated me (with good reason) but they seem to be vanishing one by one. Beautiful image of this pretty lighthouse on the hill Lyn - very good clarity and a nice presentation.

Superb shot with great exposure, and composition! It's rather sad to see the the original lighthouses being replaced with the modern day fixtures, but this is still nice.
