In the spring the females build down lined nests on the ground in dense vegetation. The male will abandon her once the eggs are laid. Mallard Ducks are not native to New Zealand but are our most common species. The are known in some countries as Dabbler Ducks. This contented pair live in our public gardens where I spotted them enjoying a bit of sunshine on Friday. Thank you for viewing. Comments always welcome and very appreciated.

Lyn - The lighting source, from the low side angle, creates a real nice dapple effect that is especially nice on the iridescent head of the male. Color saturation is very effective as is dof. Thad
