"According to Maori legend, Aoraki was a young boy who, along with his three brothers, were the sons of Rakinui, the Sky Father. On their voyage around the Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother, their canoe became stranded on a reef and tilted. Aoraki and his brothers climbed onto the top side of their canoe. However, the south wind froze them and turned them to stone. Their canoe became the Te Waka o Aoraki, the South Island. Aoraki, the tallest, became the highest peak, and his brothers created the Ka Tiritiri o te Moana, the Southern Alps. The Ngai Tahu, the main iwi (tribe) of New Zealand's southern region, consider Aoraki the most sacred of the ancestors." Narrative from Wikipedia. . . . Canon 450D, b/w conversion with PSP .

Wonderful myth to symbolize the creation of these beautiful peaks. I am happy to see you getting so much fresh air and seeing these wonderful places to capture for our eyes too. This must be striking in color too, but your b/w conversion really dramatizes the wonderful view and terrain. A good choice for doing so.

Even without color this scene is beautiful. Thanks for great narrative, Lyn. Aoraki seems really pearcing the clouds.

Pretty cool bw conversion, lovely rich contrast effect. The composition is great with the water foreground just enough to give the eye a lead in space, then the wedge from left edge and right edge balanced nicely and that central range looking majestic. Top to bottom nicely asymmetrical as well, some part of your processing made the clouds a touch stylized but not heavily so and it works in the overall impact.

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.
