Moeraki translates from Maori to Sleepy Sky. This view is of Moeraki Bay from the hill which was once the lookout and signal mast of a whaling station founded by John Hughes in 1836. The place was known at that time as Onekakara. Whaling had ceased by the late 1840's and thankfully it is now a place of peace and beauty. Taken on New Year's Day 2011. Thank you for any comments/opinions which are very appreciated :)
