After being churned out by the Aviemore Dam the Waitaki River flows on down to Lake Waitaki. Trout migrate upstream here from Lake Waitaki and spawn very close to the base of the dam.
Click Here to hear the Ballad of The Waitaki - a popular song from the sixties during the construction of the dams - it has some great images which give a true perspective of the project and some construction pics - and also a couple of very fine trout!

I like the green swirls in the water from the dam release and the dry hills across the way. Makes a interesting contrast between water and arid lands Lyn!

Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??
