After being churned out by the Aviemore Dam the Waitaki River flows on down to Lake Waitaki. Trout migrate upstream here from Lake Waitaki and spawn very close to the base of the dam.
Click Here to hear the Ballad of The Waitaki - a popular song from the sixties during the construction of the dams - it has some great images which give a true perspective of the project and some construction pics - and also a couple of very fine trout!
Thank you for viewing and for any comments. Next stop - Benmore :)

I like the green swirls in the water from the dam release and the dry hills across the way. Makes a interesting contrast between water and arid lands Lyn!

You really capture the vastness of your country so well LE. I like this sprawling look of the river. Of course the colors are outstanding.

Heaven and earth are full of His glory...that's all I could think of on viewing this; there is that wonderful blue of the sky reflected in the water and the mountains bow down.

An awesome view and a great landscape shot, LynEve! I love the elevated point-of-view and the peek at the lake off in the distance. Excellent composition and beautiful array of color. Well done!
