The Southern Alps.
About to negotiate the icy path in shadow on the left to get a better view of Aoraki/MtCook,the highest peak hidden round the corner, which I shall post tomorrow :). The Hooker River which originates from a glacier on the southern side of Mr Cook flows through this valley. Taken with Canon 450D. Thanks for viewing, comments always appreciated.

Now that you've arrived at the mountains and the snow, LE, I assume that you're wearing your skis. The colors in the foreground foliage provide an excellent counterbalance to the rather stark looking mountains and clear, blue skies.

Not very often that I use "skis" and "skies" in the same paragraph. Whatever. It's a lovely shot and well worth the trip. The Sierras are 3 hours from here, but I haven't been to the mountains in 10 years. Just lazy, I guess.

Those colourful bushes contrast so well against the barren mountains and the dazzling snow on the ground.

I love when one is able to get hints of two seasons in the same image-in this case, fall and winter.
