Lyn, I think one can't compare apples and oranges with each other. Both kind if images have their own advantages, so both your B&W and colored versions are, based on the same composition, very good one to me.
I can't believe I'm going to say this, Lyn, but I like the black and white version better. There was a timeless quality about the first shot that this doesn't share. While this shot is very nice, the color seems to modernize the feel of the shot. It might be peas and carrots, but I like peas more than carrots on some days.
