One of my favourite places. The Hawkesbury Lagoon near Waikouaiti, New Zealand is semi-tidal and home to more than 26 species of birds, including Black swans, Mallards, Paradise and Shell duck, NZ Shoveler and Spoonbills.
It has been a wildlife refuge since 1889.
Matainaka is the Maori name for the area.
Those 3 elegant black swans on the water had just scared the daylights out of me low flying above the water behind where I was walking along here. I think they missed me by inches lol.
