One of my favourite places. The Hawkesbury Lagoon near Waikouaiti, New Zealand is semi-tidal and home to more than 26 species of birds, including Black swans, Mallards, Paradise and Shell duck, NZ Shoveler and Spoonbills.
It has been a wildlife refuge since 1889.
Matainaka is the Maori name for the area.
Those 3 elegant black swans on the water had just scared the daylights out of me low flying above the water behind where I was walking along here. I think they missed me by inches lol.
Taken with Canon EOS 450D.
See them a bit closer HERE
Thank you for taking the time to look and for any comments.

Lyn, a beautiful image that is well composed. I have only seen black swans at the zoo's how lucky to see them in the wild, and free. This is such a pleasing image. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Wonderful composition in this Lyn and the natural framing of the tall grasses is perfect for this shot.

Loved your shots today LE. The weeds in the foreground make for such depth to the scene. Fall never looked better.

The yellow/brown grass makes a good contrast to the blue water. Nicely composed beautiful image. As long as the swans did not drop any "message" you were Okay :)

Beauty of a scene, Eve. Love the way the stalks curve inward, leading to the swans.
