22nd February. Another year and more than 11,500 aftershocks since I posted THIS image on the first anniversary.

The demolition continues and the rebuild goes on. The few times I have visited Christchurch since there is a feeling of disorientation without familiar landmarks. It was an event no one here will ever forget and the words 'The Cathedral is down' still haunts me - that is when the realization struck that this was a 'big one' and would take lives.

This is an old photo taken with Panasonic FZ7. It was part of a floral display inside Christchurch Cathedral, which is now in ruins.

The city's new 700-seat transitional cardboard (yes, cardboard!) cathedral is under construction. It is expected to last for at least 50 years. If you are wondering what a cardboard cathedral looks like Click Here

There will be a Civic Memorial Service held in Latimer Square, which was a makeshift triage centre after the quake, with a 1 minutes silence at 12.51pm, and places reserved for bereaved families and seriously injured survivors. People can also take part in the River of Flowers by dropping flowers in the city waterways.

11,500 after shocks! Will this ever be a safe place! Nice image of remembrance Lyn. Cardboard tubes! I know that in Japan they always built houses out of very light materials. Let us hope that disaster will never return to that area again.
