My early childhood was lived in a Victorian terrace house in the north of England where the only window views were of brick walls and chimney stacks. I periodically tell myself how fortunate I am to now see the sea from one side of my house and the mountains from the other. I can drive down to the sea in 5 minutes but the distant mountains take a bit longer and every so often they call. Today we did a 12 hour round trip to get closer - and of course take some photos. I have a few to post and hope you enjoy them :)

Glaciers cover 40% of the Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park which contains 19 peaks above 3,000 metres, including New Zealand's highest peak Aoraki/Mount Cook. The park is also part of Te Waipounamu - South Westland which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
This is part of the Tasman Glacier which is 27 km long, up to three km wide and 101 sq km. In places it is 600m deep.

Probably because of the texture of the glacier, when viewing it as a thumbnail it had the appearance of a painting. I thought perhaps you had used a filter on it but no, it is a gorgeous compilation of detail. You are indeed lucky to have such variety of landscape within a short distance of home; I have to drive far into the next state to see anything like this.

Good thing you had Caller I.D.; that could have been the Call of the Wild on the line. A spectacular view and wonderful capture Lyn. Nice lighting and colours in the scene.
