As well as people, there have been many animals affected by the recent severe storms here in New Zealand. Right now 1000's of stranded sheep and cattle are being rescued from massive snow drifts in the high country. Volunteers have been called for from the general public. Helicopter drops of feed have been made.
I did not expect seals to be worried about the Antarctic blast though. They were, several of them had clambered up the viewing grandstand at our penguin colony to escape the massive tides. This one wanted the best view as it had got up to the very top one. It looked pretty fed up I thought.
