Paeonies in my garden.This same plant has flowered year after year for at least 38 years.It came with the house :)
Paeonies have been cultivated from more than 2000 years.
The name derives from the Greek word 'Paeon’, a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing,who became jealous of his pupil. Zeus saved him from Asclepius's anger by turning him into a flower.

When a teacher becomes jealous of his pupil then something is wrong except when the jealousy is caused by the pupil's "affinity" towards the teacher's wife :) A wonderful shot of this lovely and pure looking flower Lyn.

I wish I could smell their sweet fragrance - one of my favorites - my Mom has very old peonies as well about the same age as these. I think the old varieties are more fragrant.
