A few more ancient buildings on the Wirral.
Willaston Windmill, 80 feet high was built in 1805 and has been converted into a house (in 1958) after becoming disused following storm damage in 1930. It was the largest of the Willaston windmills.
The Hadlow Road Railway Station closed to passengers in 1956, and closed altogether in 1962. The track was converted into a footpath, the Wirral Way, and the station turned into a museum and visitor centre. My husband took this one with a 3mp camera (yes that is me striding ahead)
The pretty cottage is Bishop Wilson's Cottage, Burton, the birthplace in 1663 of Thomas Wilson who became Bishop of the Isle of Man. He was also a Physician, and founded a school in Burton in 1724, which still exists.

A fine photo montage of Britains past Lyn, I hope you enjoyed your visit. An informative narrative btw, it was Dr Beeching who cut over 4,000 miles of the Uks railways during a major British Rail economy drive. Many of those disused railway tracks have now been converted to cycle/pedestrian walkways.

Nostalgia pur sang! To me it's a pity that they haven't refurbished the traditional windmill like they use to do it in Holland. Would be wonderful to see this mill grinding again, because it's a relative tall one. Think it was a matter of lack of money.

Regards, Cornelius.
