We braved the cold and went to the beach late this afternoon. I spotted this bird, but am not sure what it is. Some kind of heron ? The rocks were slippery and my hands numb so I zoomed in on it from a distance. I am sure someone will be able to enlighten me about its name :)

Whatever it is, he's cold too as his feathers are sticking out. Good job managing the frigid conditions with this capture, LE.

I think this is a North Island Goose Lyn. Nice capture of the lonely goose on the beach.

A very lovely capture with the golden hour lighting and it's surrounding shoreline habitat. Well done sharp composition.

I think it is a white-faced heron which migrated to NZ from Australia and is now native there too. A beautiful late day shot Lyn - really like the lighting.

I see Richie has identified it. My guess would have been some kind of heron, too. It's a beauty! Excellent capture, Lyn.

Yes, a white faced heron - http://www.blibliboy.com/2013/12/white-faced-heron/. Looks like he is not worried by the cold.

Don't know what it is but it looks very grand and exotic. You were very fortunate to be able to capture it.
