Clarks Mill at Maheno in North Otago, built in 1866 by the Totara Estate was one of 13 mills in the region and is now New Zealand's only surviving water-powered flourmill. It is a four storey building constructed of local limestone and has a rare collection of roller milling machinery installed in 1893. It has been restored by a group of dedicated volunteers and is brought into action once a month for visitors to view. It ceased operation in 1976 and is now owned by Heritage New Zealand.
We visited here today. It was free admission for many Heritage New Zealand Sites today to commemorate Waitangi Day.I have some photos on the interior which I shall also post.
