This is the Granary/Barn at Totara Estate - slightly more cheerful than my other photo today. The granary is a half loft up the steps where grain for the horses was stored.
Barn dances, parties and balls were held in the barn. A newspaper report says that in March 1896 300 people attended a "Harvest Home" barn dance and that the west wall was removed for the occassion and a marquee put up to give more room ! The next day the wall was rebuilt.

So therefore the forerunner of the nowadays dance hall, night club, or discotheque, Lyn. (☺)

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Wow! Some party to remove a wall and rebuild it the next day! Great history.

Long before the white man and long before the wheel, when the dark green forests were too silent to be real. Lightfoot 1967
