I spotted these little flowers just as I was leaving the dahlia garden so grabbed one quick shot of them, they were such a lovely colour. I am not sure what they are.
Whatever they were, they were shyly peeping out from behind their foliage as I snapped the dahlias so I thought they deserved a place as well.
For Friday :)
Edit: thank you to Kathy for identifying this as Spiderwort. As with many pretty groundcover plants it is regarded as a weed in NZ..

This is a variety of spiderwort Lyn - a very dark one. Here's a bit of info from Wikipedia: "Tradescantia,the spiderworts, is a genus of 75 species of herbaceous perennial plants in the family Commelinaceae, native to the New World from southern Canada south to northern Argentina including the West Indies". I love to photograph these at the prairie preservation I visit in July/ August. None I've shot is this dark - beautiful Lyn.
