This park is across the road from my home.It is not really a lake, just the less nasty result of the atrocious weather we have experienced which has resulted in floods and devastation down the East coast of NZ's south island. States of emergency have been in place in many areas and Civil Defense and the Military all being kept busy. This is a link to some pictures for anyone interested. The clean up will take a long time :( We are fortunate to live on a hill and all we suffered is water in the basement.

Before I read your post I thought "This looks like the intersection north of my house last night, with the water above the curbs on both sides.". It was seeing the grass grow right down to and into the water that told me it was an inundation. Weather affects our photography in so many ways--adding character to the sky, diffusing the light, washing out a sky, making giant adjustments to the contrast of a scene--it also includes what happens, physically, within our photos, like this over-abundance of lawn watering. Holy Mackinoly! I just visited that link of yours... no kidding Otago is getting nailed! I don't feel so bad about the hail we got last night or the fact that it was so dry we had a fire ban here 3 weeks ago (no fireworks for the 4th). And the rabbits are a hoot. I've never seen them do anything like that before, but in response to a prairie grass wildfire I have seen them swim across steams.

Stay dry!

There must have been a lot of rain there. I had heard/seen on BBC weather about the bad weather in the South Island. But here it looks so peaceful and the reflections are wonderful Lyn.

Lyn, I saw something on fb about it and I feel so bad for all who have to deal with this. We have had lots of rain here, but nothing like that, thank goodness. Your image shows the calm after the storm.

There has been serious flooding near me for the last week Lyn and we've had more storms again last night. These picture can't even to justice to what the flooding victims are going through in your area I'm sure. Climate change is an issue I believe despite what the loony president of the US believes.

So sorry to hear about this Lyn. I hate to see any country or people have to deal with this rubbish. I hope the weather clears soon and the Kiwi civil engineers are able to swiftly repair the damage.

Lyn, I've checked-out the link and have viewed the captures just above the text 'The Otago region woke to severe flooding, slips and other damage and multiple road closures on Saturday after a night of heavy rain and wind gusts.', but I couldn't find the 'clever rabbits'.

Your image and the above mentioned ones makes very clear how certain parts of New Zealand were suffering by the severe weather conditions.

Thanks for a very good impression. Take care, my friend!

Edit: I still have found it: "These smart rabbits took refuge from flood waters on the back of sheep. Photo: Richard Horne."

An original and inventive way to survive!
