At first look at this shot I thought it was coming towards me but I was wrong !

This is a Variable Oystercatcher, a bird found only on New Zealand's coastlines. It is larger that the Pied Oyster catcher and is normally seen wading - this one prefers grass !
The maori name for this unique bird is Torea-pango (pango meaning black)

Good luck to him/her if he/she can find oysters in the grass. The oyster catchers here look different.

He/she looks great against the green, a good perspective, and I see why you were bit confused on which way it was headed. tigs =^..^=

Interesting bird (and funny and perfect title). It brings our North American Coot to mind, although your Variable Oystercatcher has a longer beak and is not wearing "clown feet". When I was younger and was still into hunting, we would come across coots all the time when out after ducks and geese. They would not be roused until you practically stepped on them and, when they did they'd basically run on top of the water, rarely taking flight. I Googled your bird to see what it's young look like--kind of cute and fuzzy--but our coot beats your Oystercatcher in any ugly contest... so ugly they're almost cute.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
