The stone terrace here at Pali Lookout on Oahu over 1000 feet high overlooks the areas of Kaneohe and Kailua, and Mokoli'i (Chinamans Hat Island that I posted a previous photo of) It can just be seen in the distance in this one."Pali"means "cliff" in Hawaiian.
The Pali Lookout is of great historical significance. The Lookout is the site of the Battle of Nuuanu. In 1795 King Kamehameha I won the battle that united Oahu under his rule. This fierce battle claimed hundreds of soldiers' lives, many of which were forced off of the Pali's sheer cliffs.
The place is known for its howling winds and on the day I was there they were in full force. I took just a couple of shots as I actually feared being blown over ! I have not experienced anything like it before. It is a breathtaking view, and I wish I could have captured more.
Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ 28. One of the very few I used this camera for (it has a neck strap I thought was safer in the wind !) For almost all of my other Hawaii photos I used Panasonic TZ60.
