Taken this Easter. This is the 'new' bridge over the Waitaki River at Kurow, completed in 2014.
Please take a look at THIS photo showing the 'old' much more interesting one at Easter 2011. Two similar bridges were replaced at the same time, replacing the old single lane wooden ones that had served for 132 years.

There is a big difference in the upgrading of the old bridge!...You did good going back.

Yeaaaaaaahhhh... I went back and looked at your link and I agree; the old one looked much more interesting. We had an old bridge here, two lanes only, across the Missouri River between Bismarck and Mandan, ND. Some young engineer decided to convince the state that it needed to be "fixed" by replacing the open-grate deck with concrete, thereby shunting the rainwater and snowmelt down the piers, effectively rotting them out and destroying the bridge. The replacement does have some style and four lanes instead of two, but the classic character of the old one is long gone.

I too love the old bridges to look at LE. I might not love them so much if it collapsed and I fell into the water.
Excellent composition.

The old one looks definitely more interesting but apparently it became too old with unsteady "legs".

This one has a more streamlined look, but I do favor the old one. Once again you did a super job on the capture. tigs=^..^=

Both compositions/images are very good, Lyn, but I prefer the architecture of the old bridge.
Thanks for giving us the ability to make this comparison.

This may surprise you, but when I first saw this, I thought of the Tangiwai bridge disaster back in 1953. We learned about that all the way up here. Thanks for sharing the new bridge with us. Hopefully is lasts a long time.
