My current crop of dahlia photos are taken here, along the far border. The Church Is St Luke's Anglican Church and the arched entry way that can just be seen on the left is inscribed with the following words

"In memory of George Jones, M.L.C. 1844 - 1920"

"This arch was erected by the people of North Otago to commemorate the invaluable public service & private worth of one whose life was spent in steadfast devotion to the interests of his fellow man.
Justum et tenacum propositi virum"

What a lot of beautiful architecture LE. The only George Jones I knew was a country singer. A great photo.

Thought by only reading the title that you've become a fan of the late George Jones, Lyn, ☺ , but by reading your narrative, I see that another Jones was commemorated there.
Although the C&W singer George Jones had specific qualities, think that 'Justum et tenacum propositi virum' (Just and firm of purpose) is more proper qualification for the by you described George Jones.
Good one!
