A couple of Nile Monitors (Varanus niloticus)contemplating a swim on a hot Hawaii afternoon. They are excellent swimmers.
Africa's largest lizards, they can grown as big as 2 metres. They are voracious predators with sharp teeth and claws and their tails are powerful weapons as well. . They will gang up together to steal eggs, even from crocodiles. Not to be messed with !

The late great Steve Irwin profiled these guys once in awhile. Nice lighting and presentation.

Sounds like a smaller version of the Komodo Varan ! Not a pet to have in the hose! Good shot Lyn.

' 2 metres'...wow, that's quite a size to go along with their voracious attitude...I'm glad you took this from above...nevertheless, a good capture where we can see their form and details of their skin.

Impressive critters. Some (or possibly, all) monitors have a poison they inject when they bite, and some have been known to take down much larger animals by waiting for days after a bite until the poison drops the prey.
