A great tour in Elizabeth Castle, Jersey. This chap was excellent. With my D700 and no battery pack, limited to 5FPS. He fired three shots in total. This is the only frame out of 30 which captured the ignition. Lucky shot! Taken with Nikon D700 / Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 G @f/10 1/400s 80mm ISO200

Great, and perfectly timed, action shot, Richard. To me, it wasn't only pure luck from your side, but think that your photographic skills was helpful to achieve this result as well.
Done very well!

As Mr. C. said, great timing to capture the flame of the cap and powder, and no doubt it took three shots of his to get one for you. I tried getting the same result from an 1880s cannon fired here in the Dakotas and another at Fort Mackinac on Mackinaw Island in Lake Huron. No dice.
