I took this picture at the calgary zoo. This guy, and a few friends, fly around in one of the green house buildings. Not having confined to a traditional cage makes taking pictures of him a little easier even though he always seems to stay against the ugly glass not giving me much of a background. Oh well, i think this one turned out alright.

Yes, it did! It's clear despite the glass and he looks transfixed. Beautiful focus on the eyes.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

you got some great shots in this most recent safari snicker....

i'm still amazed why you posted that really ugly chicken thing first, these shots are heads, shoulders, chests, stomachs, hips, knees, and probably even ankles above it!

There's nothing like those clear, piercing eyes. You've done a great job here, and I always like to see owl pics, and I'm afraid you'd never be able to get this out in the wild.

I think I would have preferred to see this is letter-box format, without the out-of-focus feathers and half body shot. You are right, the background, although, grey, is a distraction - would have been better to darken the whole lot.
The eyes are good! That's why I think the letter-box would have been perfect (but what do I know, you seem to be doing all right! lol)

Very piercing eyes indeed! I enjoy how just this little guys face is in focus and the rest is softly blurred; it enhances the stare effect.

Well done, thanks for sharing!
