There's always a bigger bug.

In hindsight some more depth of field would have been great on this shot, but the big bug didn't like me shooting him during mealtime. He kept shifting round to face me and looking generally unhappy.

Yes, it's another extension tube shot. I'm loving them, expect more :). D40 kit lens at 55mm with 36mm extension hand-held. 1/50 @F10, ISO-200. -0.7 stops compensation.

Talking of exposure compensation, I've found this necessary with the tubes and that I need more compensation with greater tube length. I suspect that it's because the camera reads the subject distance from the lens but gets it wrong because the tubes aren't taken into account.

Not the usual bug capture. Kudos on a shot well done. DOF works out just fine for me at least. (I actually prefer it to be shallow most of the times. Less is more I guess.)

Nice shot , good spotting .
I like Klas , like your limited DOF here , it helps lead the eye .

I think the DOF is just right, there's a lot to those 2 bugs and if there had been more DOF then it would have been too fussy I think. Nice capture. How far are you away from the subject here then?

I'm pretty close in; a couple of inches or so from the front of the lens probably. Maybe a little more, but not much.
