7:45 a.m. today, April 8, 2018. No specific significance behind the date. Just a day when another 8" of soft snow was forecast, and just another day to those laid to rest in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan. My adopted parents are about three-quarters the way up this hill, just in front of the cannon's barrel. [if you're wondering if perhaps the photo is a wee bit crooked, look to the chain hanging from under the cannon... it's perpendicular... the slope of the hill is sort of an optical illusion, and visibility this morning was about a quarter of a mile or less] 4.09-8

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera. ~Lewis Hine The Earth without art is just 'eh'.

'Nik', referring to your narrative: about the proper leveling of an image, some people make the mistake to judge the horizontal aspects in order whether an image is tilted or not, while only the vertical aspects are useful for a proper judgment.
I'm with Bob about the high-key elements of this very image. Adds a lot to honor and commemorate the fallen ones in an dignified way.
Excellent composition!

Wonderful contrast with the white snow and gravesites.
