Fall is a very quiet time at the International Peace Garden, at the U.S./Canadian border. Much of the floral displays are wilted from cold nights and their color has decreased, only to be replaced by more the more natural coloring of the aspens that grow thick here. Lake Storman is actually in Canada, and this photo is taken from the "red road" just below and to the right of #17 on this linked map of the Garden. The angle is towards #16, the Errick Willis Pavilion, just left of the center where the tip of a pine rises above the gold aspens. I can't imagine a scene more tranquil. 5.12-8

Lovely peaceful scene before winters' onslaught...a nice demarcation of blues with the line of autumn trees running thru the center...good one, Nik.

This is one of the few international border not patrolled by armed guards or razor wire fencing. I wonder though, are you able to freely walk to the Canadian side without going through some checkpoint? What would prevent someone from defecting?

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
