i decided to try my hand again at photoshop jewels so here is the result of that. i used four of my fractals for the different 'elements'
Fire - "Tribal Swirls"
Water - "Ice Explosion v2"
Earth - "Bioluminescence"
Wind - "Crystalline"
Background - "Ice Spiral"
overall i'm proud of my efforts and thought it turned out pretty well. what do you think?
update: i have done a revised version using gold framing as mentioned in the comments. be sure to check it out. thanks!

I really like this Kevin. Very daring and creative. It caught my eye right away and the background compliments this very well. Very nice post.

Yes, you've succeeded and can rightly be proud of yourself. The jewels are beautiful and the composition is good. My only suggestion would be, lose those circles around each jewel. They detract from the 3-D effect.

the reason for the glow around the jewels is because they were a little jagged and so the glow kinda covered that up. ill try it though without the glow and see how it fairs. thanks for all your comments everyone!

I kinda agree with Anastasia about the glow around them. If you need to cove the edges though what you could do is on a layer above the gems add a gold or silver framing around them. To make them appear to be set in Jewelry, Also one other note, the light reflection on the Fire gem seems to bright and oddly contrasts from the other gems. Maybe lighten that one up a bit.

its very very likely i will do an edit of this and upload the fixed up version. 1 problem though :-S i don't know how to do that gold or silver or any kind of framing on jewels. so if anyone could teach me or help me out on this that would be awesome!!! thanks again for the comments

One of the best aspects of your image is the explanation which goes into a little of the details of your creative process which spreads more than pretty pictures; but knowledge also.
