After a short hike from Cumberland Falls, my son and I came upon this fall known as Eagle Falls. I was able to acheave the effect I wanted, so the day was not a total loss. Comments welcome and appreciated.
(I received this as a comment request, so I'm going to critique the image. Please don't take anything as an insult!)
I would like you to take the image and grayscale it. What I noticed when I made it black and white is that there are basically only four tonal variations - black, white, and two gray values.
While the photo you took is in color, I personally don't see enough variation in light to make this a stand-out photograph. It's somewhat blown out on the waterfall itself (even if you do a longer exposure it should still have a noticeable variation of tones: see this to see what I'm talking about).
If you didn't use flash for this image, perhaps try shooting waterfalls again during the day using flash. I know it seems somewhat counter-intuitive, but the flash may brighten up the rock behind the waterfall, thus giving you a greater variety of light.
On the bright side, I normally dislike frames because they detract from the image, but the one you've chosen is subtle and tasteful.
