From its rise as a trickle, high on the heather-covered fells at the top of the North Pennines, to the top of the whin-sill rocks at Forest-in-Teesdale, the River Tees steadily grows and gathers pace. Then it suddenly and spectacularly drops 70 feet.
You feel its awesome power as you begin the approach. An air of anticipation pierces the peace and quiet of the countryside and as you descend along the pretty woodland path, a muffled rumble reaches your ears. Each twist and turn of the gentle-sloping path gives a different view every few yards, and yet the waterfall still escapes you.
Suddenly, the rumble turns to a roar, you peer through the trees and there it is. The sight astounds you. This photo really cannot portray the sheer size of this vertical wall of water, nor does it capture the ceaseless, roaring sound and the almost tangible atmosphere of the place. High Force commands your respect. Its power is its beauty.
And eventually ends up in the North Sea at South Shields? terrific shot of the falls Anne-Marie...I.ve been there dozens of times, took dozens of piccies and never posted one on here? now you have beaten me to it...well done......
As a matter of interest, If you venture a bit further downstream, you would come to Low-Force, a bit smaller, but very nice....in fact there are a number of them all along that part........get yerself down this way next time...and you wont go home with a blank memory card?............Cheers Bob
This is a good composition and subject. I'm finding it too contrasty on my screen to get all the detail of the shot. Must be breathtaking to actually be there. Your commentary was very visual and took me there! anne :-)
Don't tell me it's good, tell me what is good about it. Don't tell me it stinks, tell me what I can do do improve it. Thank you for taking the time to tell me anything at all. Be blessed. anne :-)
I have never been to "High Force Fall's" but now i have seen it in your photo' , i think a trip there is in order : )
very good Photo' , and good composition. the way you manged to capture the spray from the falling water and the way the water flow comes around to the foreground.
