I'm not sure Anne- Marie. Perhaps some type of live oak?. I just love how the wild flowers and grasses are growing in the trunk. It does look like it would be pretty old doesn't it?. Glad you saw this and shared with us. It's a beautiful photo.
You do not have to thank me if I leave a comment on your image...unless you really want to. ..It is my pleasure to comment on your beautiful work. If you want to thank me post a comment on one of my shots. I would appreciate it. Help me develop and grow.
This is just great Anne-Marie. A magnificant old tree, I can only imagine the history and if it could talk. You've captured it in perfect light with wonderful colorful flowers around it. Awesome post. Thanks for sharing this. TYU=thank you unnecessary ;)
The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people.

I believe it to be an very old 'Beech' tree....looking at the leaves, and the colour of the bark, gives me the clues!
Suberb shot Anne-Marie.....I like the way you filled the frame with it...and the various colours are great too............
TOTALLY COOL! I feel like the tree is looking at me! This shot is nicely composed, and I especially like the flowers growing out of the "cave" (can I call it that?) in the center. Where in the world was this thing growing?

Great capture of this ancient tree. I agree with Bob that it could very well be a beech. It is a concern if there is a large enough pocket of decay to support the growth of grass and wildflowers that the tree may be nearing the end of its days.
Hi Anne-Marie, what a fantastic 'portrait' of a grand old veteran Beech Tree. Where was this taken as I love to see old vets like this one! Lovely composition.
Cheers,
Steve.
