God will no doubt rewrad you for having been hospitable to one of His spiders.

I always hope "my" spiders will last until Halloween; they'd make perfect decorations for that occasion. But they never do.

Reminds me of that old song, "Everything is beautiful in it's own way..." (A young student of mine once brought me two giant beetles from the Amazon on that theory; I swear each was bout 4 inches long. I'm sure they WERE beautiful, but I just couldn't see it.)

This is a lovely shot, as are the others, with the web sparkling gold. And *this* spider really is elegant!

Whenever insects of any kind show up inside my home I try to take them outside rather than kill them and if I have no choice but to end their life, I always apologize...some would think that crazy so I can well understand being touched by the passing of this spider and even growing attached to her...she provided you with hours of entertainment, was quite a beautiful specimen, and enjoyed a peaceful existence and passing on your porch...she now lives on in this wonderful capture...take comfort in that Pat...you did good in both the shot and your compassion for this little being.:Pat.

Good shot here, I like spiders too. We have one in the toilet on the ceiling. He lies there and waits for that stray fly. Not seen him catch any yet and i am sure he is trying to pluck up courage to jump on my head. Glad this one can't jump on my head, he looks a little bigger than mine lol.

It must be something that happens to all spiders Pat. My garden spider is gone now too . I kind of miss her when I go out on my deck in the mornings. Hopefully they'll both come back next year and remember that no harm was done to them so they'll set up house ( or trap ) again. Excellent clarity in your photo and she was a beauty of a spider.

Great macro Pat, I am sorry poodle spider is gone, and I am convinced that Jerry killed her, the face of this spider kinda looks like Jerry's mask, I will call the folks at Law and Order to come investigate. They can get DNA off of his shoe. This is the best Spider pic I have ever seen, Great work Pat.

Personally I think all nature is wonderful and I never kill spiders, in fact I get upset with people who do, spiders are amazing and they sevre a vital purpose in the natuarl balance of things... the only animals I cannot abide are cockroaches and biting things like mosquitoes and fleas... but I get very upset if I accidently kill a lizard or something like that.

Anyway... enough of that... I beleive this is some type of orb weaver? We get lots of them around Brisbane, quite ofetn in "Communal" webs, and they are always quite spectacular, but the luminous orange in thise specimen in fantastic! Very nicely captured and I'm sure he/she was very grateful that you provided a safe haven for them to make their "house".

My condolences Pat. A little late I know but this is the first time I've seen this shot. Poodle looks like what we call Banana Spiders in the woods where we go canoing. We had a large Daring Jumping Spider named Wooly. He was living in my curtain so we put him in a fish bowl with dirt and a plant and fed him often. I eventually let him go in the garden. He's missed too. It's a fantastic shot! Perfect lighting to catch the web, good clarity, and his colors - Oh My!

Wow, she was beautiful. nothing crazy about that at all. I had a yellow and black bananna spider that I watched for most of the summer at my bosses shop. Unfortunately it got murdered by another employee while I wasnt there. I was very angry, and it actually bothered me. I would throw flies in a watch it eat them. So I know how it feels. =) great picture dear, the colors are awesome.

I had a pet spider named Spots once. She was yellow and black--and hugely massive. Seriously. She had a 2" long abdomen. She was so shiny and beautiful. She didn't live indoors, I am all for outside pets, especially when it comes to spiders, but she got plenty of crickets, grasshoppers, ants, bees, and whatever else I could catch for her. She once held still long enough for me to touch her, and didn't scurry away. When I saw the egg sack I knew I would have to say good bye soon, and about a week later, I buried her. *holds back tears* REST IN PEACE POODLE!! *runs away and cries*
