I ran across this picture the other day. There's more of a story here than a picture you would want to keep. We had what one might call a hundred year flood in January of 2013. Almost 13 inches of rain fell in just 3 days. Eighteen parishes (counties) were declared a disaster area. Both ends of my country road were flooded out. Although my property was not flooded as you can see from the picture taken by me from my front door I could not get into town. I live on a dead end road. People were trapped between my house and the dead end and also at the open end of my road which was flooded so that no one could get into town-unless you got creative and had a very high vehicle. Thus the picture. The people in the picture are a couple of my best friends that live on down past my house towards the dead end. Everyone was bored because we couldn't go anywhere for days. They called and said they were coming down to visit. I said, "How ya gonna get here" (the road was flooded between my house and where they lived)? They replied, "Wait and see". The picture tells the rest of the story. There she is, sitting in the bucket of their front end loader with her brown purse over her arm. She is waving as she and her husband are heading back home through the flood waters located on down the road. I laugh every time I see this picture. The flood did bring about much comradery between neighbors some of whom had a couple of those REALLY high jacked up pick-up trucks and would ferry groceries to those of us who could not get out. What a time that was. If you have nothing better to do, you can Google, "Acadia Parish Flood of January 2013" and see more pictures.
A cheerful image in bad times!
