On request I present the caste in which I shot "Mirror refections". This castle is the unsurpassed object of envy of the Sun King Louis XIV. The story goes like this: the castle was the estate of Nicolas Fouquet. He was the Lord high treasurer of Louis XIV (no wonder where he got the money from). In the middle of the 17th century the castle was the most elegant and mordern masterpiece that none of the royal properties, at that time, could compete with. The treasurer made one mortal mistake however. In his pride he invited the young Sun King and showed him his castle. The Sun King reacted a bit different than Fouquet expected. He became so irritated and outraged by such ostentationous display, that he condemned Fouquet to life emprissonment! Louis XIV then took inspiration from Vaux to build the world famous Versailles in Paris, which you may know. I can tell from experience however, that this (smaller) estate is more enjoyable than it's younger famous brother. I hope you enjoy the picture and the story!

You must have used a very high f-stop to get this much depth and detail, Paul. What a fantastic architectural beauty. I love the symmetry of your cropping and am surprised there were only two tourists in view. Any time you would like to include us in the tour of your holiday, I'll be there!

Imagine how impressed you would be to be dropped off here by carriage. Still works too.

Nicolas Fouquet proved that bigger is not necessarily better!

The history you give is most interesting about this truly magnificent castle and your capture of it is brilliant, what architecture, what a great picture!

Wonderful photo ... and almost perfect symmetry too. (the front gate is slightly, ever so slightly, off center).
Detail ... great, colours ... love the greyness in the sky with the stone ... and composition ... great (wondering what is at the foreground of your image? could a little more sky have been sacrificed and perhaps the full breadth of the architechtural gate or posts leading up to the iron wrought gate itself, have been able to be included if the sky was cropped a bit?

I don't mean to be critical, I strive for constructive suggestions, instead.
If I were to grade this image, with your narrative that acompanies it, would elevate it to an 11 out of 10. Stand alone ... hmm, tough, but at least a 9/10.

I wouldn't mind seeing this exact perspective in the differing seasons. Each would cast or convey another dimension onto the castle itself and the photo.

Again, first and foremost ... thanks for sharing.

After having read several biographies of Fouquet and his cohorts, this (and the interior photoshots, elsewhere) bring an added dimension to the 'Wunderkoenig's' long and tyrannical reign. These folks knew how to live-it-up in style; and, as a cultural relic of gallic decadence it is one of the best. Your photos are superb.

I do like the clarity of the photo and the subject, but I think the angle should be straighter instead of slanted like that.
