I found this tree while dragging my kids on a sledge through the dunes at Schoorl in Holland. The sun created a beautiful silhouette. I hope you like it!
This is truly a magical image and so breathtaking that it surely deserves such a great and well-thought image title like "tree". All those roots and branches are like veins who carry the energy of life. This tree looks like he is reaching out for the sky. Your subtle lighting and coloring as well as the snow are the icing on the cake. This image deserves a perfect 10 and goes right into my favorites.
An absolute stunner Paul. Those branches & roots, the sepia tone you used all convey a real sense of mystery & foreboding. You just know there's a cliff just beyond that tree, with a rain lashed mansion, complete with a dark master with a mysterious past & a young naive governess ! An outstanding picture, 10 in the booth !
You have certainly outdone yourself on this one Paul. The detailing is superb as is the color tone that you used. I love looking at all the intertwining branches, small & large. It reminds me of the roadway of life...go this way, go that way, go the other way :)
I have dowloaded this to my faovrites on my harddrive and am using it as my wallpaper. Thank you for posting this beauty to share with us.

Wow, Paul...that is so gorgeous..the way the roots are above the ground, and the sepia colour...aNd all the little tiny shadows...touching the tree here and there. ITs a tree that would inspire quite a poem...Im so glad you took this photo...high marks from me and many good wishes for your having a good next year...you are such an artist when it comes to taking pictures....one of the best on caedes..thank you my friend...for such beauty!! verena
This remind me of Sleepy Hallow and Brother Grimm :)) Very very good shot Paul. The sephia tones are just awesome. I think the key is in your composition since it creates a good DOF and the creep altogether. BRAVO!
That's it, I quit, you've stolen all my tens for the day. Love the way, in sepia, the snow just adds light and highlights the tops of the branches. Natural contrast.
Incredible shot! I love how you can see the shadows of the branches falling onto the roots. The snow makes the picture so much more interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I usually preach that sepia or b&w shouldn't be used just as a clouring option. This one gives the first impact of doing just that, but in closer scrutiny I see that I am wrong, at least on this occasion, the sepia gives the magnificent tree some degree of dignity, more than it would inhold on normal color.
Great work on this one!
i have to say this is a beautiful manipulation, the sepia really makes the fine detail in the branches of the tree managable, while maintaining the contrast, and keeping a dramatic sky, superb
wow that's so eery and ominous. the sepia tone stuff works so great in this picture i wouldnt have made it any differently. except for the fact that if i made it it would not have been good at all haha. i like this tree, when i look at it, it has that appearance of "something that is alive... but is not supposed to be..." this is also a great angle.
Exceptional image here Paul. You have really captured something stunning, the roots of this tree is outstretched and tangled giving the viewer so much detail to look at. The color of this shot works so well with the image displayed here. This is a 10/10 from me and into my fav's. Great work from you :)
not an usual tree... this one has a lot of power, it seems getting off from its roots, to begin a new way to be into its shape...the sepia tones and the lighting is make it more atractive and full of meanings... excelent shot .
my new image "roots or traces"
This is one of the best shots I've seen in a long long time. Very powerful!!! A perfect 10 and in my favorites. I can't believe I missed this when I was going through your gallery. WOW a masterpiece!!!!
Wow, that is a breath taking picture. I've looked at a lot of trees on this site. I'm being honest when I say this, that is one of the best tree pictures I have looked at. Definitely in the top 5 of my favorite. Thanks for sharing!
This is still one of my all-time faves here on the site. I have no idea how/why I haven't commented on it until now. Perfectly composed and the lighting and textures are amazing. I'd fave it, but I did that already a long time ago ;-)
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
