Another butterfly I found in my garden. Same technique as the other monsters of parts I to III. Nice detail; this photo was shot on a cloudless day with the sun almost reaching it's zenith and directly illumination the butterfly. On top of the sunlight I also used my flash! And the result of all that light is a photo that seems to be shot at night.

Nice detail captured in this image. Good depth of field and a lovely presentation.

Ok, Paul, I want to see if I understand this right -- according to the EXIF info on your image, shutter speed was 1/200sec. and with an F/29 aperature, actually most of the light was blocked - Taken quickly, not letting all that light in - and on top of that, the ISO was 200 which would have normally been for a lower light situation. The flash actually filled in what the camera was blocking? How far off am I ? - the inquiring mind, Patty

Paul, It's hard to believe how you wound up with such a good picture. Great shot, Sir.

Thanks Paul for the details on this picture. The visual excellence I believe was achieved by using your flash. Really exposed his antanae to the finest detail. The dark background is suitable for this light subject. The shadows caused him to stand out.

I'm not so sure this is a butterfly. Looks more like a moth, but I'm no expert. Beautifully captured either way.

Dear Paul,
After reading your description of this image, I thought how could you possibly caculate all the variables, and arrive at a conclusion that produced this result? I'm dumbfounded. Anyway, your insects are slowly but surely infesting my wallpaper.

More fun with a flash. I use FEC (flash exposure compensation) to fine tune the flash intensity. Plus 2/3 is common for most Canon bodies.
