Le Mont-Saint-Michel, rocky, cone-shaped islet in northwestern France, in the Gulf of Saint-Malo, connected by a causeway with the mainland. The islet, celebrated for its Benedictine abbey, has small houses and shops on its lowest level. Above these stand the monastic buildings, many of which date from the 13th century and are considered outstanding examples of Gothic architecture. The entire islet is crowned by the abbey church, about 73 m (about 240 ft) above sea level.

What an excellent shot of this amazing building! The color and clarity are tops and I like the angle you shot it from. There's so much to see and the detail is perfect.

FABULOUS. about 6 years ago my husband and 2 of our daughters went to mont st. michel. it was late in october and it was raining when we got there at about 7pm. my husband and i went to take a look. there were 3 cars in the parking lot. it wasn't raining hard and the combination of lights and rain made it truly magical. the next day we went for the big look and tour. again, hardly anyone was there and we loved every second we spent. when i saw your photograph it brought it all back. it is the best. they told us you couldn't walk in the sandy area where the tide comes in unless you were with an experienced guide. QUICKSAND!!! glad you're back! jen

This is perfectly captured, on a nice day too! I did visit this place. I was struck, if not fascinated by, the sheer number of artists peppered around its perimeter, all looking up to the mount. Was beautiful to walk amongst their canvases and sketch pads and see their eccentrism as well as their impression of their subject. Anyway, had you not posted it, I wouldn't have had that nice memory. Thanks for taking such a nice picture of it!

Hans.

great picture and clarity. also, good job on being able to not get all the crows of people in the ground you're standing on in the shot. that was a challenge for me when i went! beautiful place though!
